HEALTH WRITING
Health writing can be a little bit like kale.
Full of good intentions, but rubbery and hard to swallow without the right prep and attention.
Here’s the thing.
When it comes to talking about health and wellness, it’s easy to say too little or too much. To be too buttoned-up and bland or too touchy feely, too far out.
Whether you offer massage or medical miracles, fix broken limbs or broken hearts, the chemistry between you and your audience is what matters the most.
Of course your messaging needs to convey the nuts and bolts of what you do without gimmicks or cliche. It also needs to land in the hearts and minds of real human beings.
Striking the right balance is hard. I can help.
Specifically, I can help:
Educate or inform without sounding preachy, analytical, or dry
Add clarity and/or consistency to obscure or esoteric concepts
Put a human voice to a technical product or service, with accuracy and integrity
Highlight what’s unique about your work even if there’s a cluster of competition close by
Home in on the people you most want to serve, boosting both business and joy

WHY WORK WITH ME?
I was into health and wellness long before kombucha was queen.
Just a few years out of college, fueled by a simmering crock pot of desire (Instant Pot wasn’t even a glimmer in her mama’s eye) to study health, I left a solid job and my comfy midwestern roots for California. For the next ten+ years, I followed that desire on an exciting, unscripted adventure of study and work.
I earned a Master’s degree in Integral Health and became certified as a Nutrition Consultant.
I ran a pioneering program to test the potency claims of nutritional supplements and apprenticed with an herbalist at her cabin in the woods.
I partnered with doctors and patients at the first integrative medicine clinic certified by the state of California, taught nutrition and cooking classes, and started my own medicinal tea company.

Learning about health and wellness exposed me to useful science and fact, but it also woke up an innate knowing in me.
The concepts and language of health and medicine, of body and mind, came easily.
For all that I didn’t know about life and the world, I naturally got the world of wellness.
And then, of course, the adventure turned personal.
I experienced infertility and, after a decade, the great blessing of becoming an older mother through adoption.
Through a family medical crisis, I became a caregiver and medical advocate overnight—a role that would last fifteen years through complex illnesses of body and mind.
I became a patient myself, first sick on stress, and then through my own diagnosis and surgery.
Through it all, the science and facts, my ability to understand and speak the language, was a clear benefit.
But I also had to learn how to heal and get well.

From breathwork to Buddhism, Chinese medicine to psychedelic medicine, and from physical therapy to mindfulness-based therapy, I deepened my education and it changed me.
Today I don’t know if I’m any smarter, but I am wiser. I’ve seen things. My compassion for both patients and care providers is genuine, and enlivening. I am resilient and strong.
This is a long way of saying, I’ve walked the walk. While I’m not an expert in any one thing, I understand.
Weaving this lived experience into the good work you bring to the world would be a deeply satisfying joy.
I WANT TO MIND YOUR BUSINESS.
